Retrieve file from Recycle Bin issue

Hello,

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and yesterday, when I started my PC up, I was presented with a scaled down version of my desktop. Upon further investigation, I found out that I was at c:\Users\TEMP\desktop. I attempted to put some files back on the desktop, and ran into other issues, so I did a Ctrl-Z to undo what I did. These files ended up in the recycle bin, with the c:\Users\TEMP\desktop label, and any attempts to retrieve them result in an error message stating that this does not exist.

I have gotten back to my original desktop, which is at c:\Users\Me\desktop by searching other internet sites about this disappearing desktop profile issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to retrieve the "lost" files?

Thank you.

Hello Gedinfo,

In addition to Bob's post above:

Since you have Vista Ultimate, you may be able to Previous Versions to restore the file from it's original location instead of the Recycle Bin.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the replies. The location C:\Users\TEMP\Desktop does not exist, so I do not see how Previous Version may help me.

I have attempted to recreate a new user with that name, but get a message stating that one exists, yet when I view it in explorer, it does not appear.

I would do the System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem to see if it can fix it for you then.

That does sound like the best option. Also the easiest.
