hard disk failure

Hello, I purchased my computer in february fo this year. Everything was fine until around October. One morning i turned my computer on and i saw ST2400820AS: HARD DISK failure imminent back up your hard drive and have it replaced. Since all of the software was installed when i purchased the computer i could only back up personal files.

Each time i turned on my computer i have to press F2 to get it to boot. One day i attached a camera to the USB of the computer. I accidentally pull it out without properly disconnecting the camera from the computer. I left the computer running for a while and when I came back I saw the blue screen Driver_ IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. After that I cound not get my computer to boot at all. At the time I was using Vista ULTIMATE.

I went on got a new operating system, which i am currently using ( home Premium). After trying for a long while I was able to installed it. However, I'm still having the same problems. I still have to press F2 to boot my computer. It take a longer time to boot and when ever I try to open a window it takes forever to open up. It also freezes then go back to the blue screen. Then shut down and restarts and then go to PXE-MOF: Exiting NVIDIA BOOT AGENT: DISK BOOT FAILURE, insert SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. I put the disk in and then re-installed the operating system. Unfortunately, nothing changed it continues to run slowly and keep freezing.

I also did a disk check for the hard drive and it stated that the disk was working properly. I reformatted the D: drive and still nothing changed. Could someone help me or do I need to purchase a new hard drive? Thank you.

My Computer

Hi donuyute and welcome to the Vista Forums

With this PC being under one year old and having experienced all these problems I would investigate the possibilities of getting the unit repaired or replaced under warranty.

Also your supplier should have provided some means of re-installing your original Ultimate OS and not require you to replace the OS as you did.

This could be in the form of Disks or a repair partition on the drive.

You could go to the HDD manufacturer's website and check if they have a test program for the disk which may be run from a cd to check the actual status of the HDD as the symptoms suggest that the messages you received first of all were from the SMART disk monitor.
