Hi
i recently downloaded a game and my comeputer was fine

but when i restarted it my harddrive is sounding liek its doing loads of work, you know the clicky thing it does when it boots up or your transfering files.

well its doing this when im not doing anything.. so i go into task manager and there is csrss.exe running with nothing in the username colum or the description.

so i asume its a virus and got avg and norton running atm

what i want to know is has anyone had this problem before and will a registry cleaner help?
thanks alot hope someone can help me :)

Hi kilax101, and welcome to the Vista Forums

Have a look here which explains more about the file in question which could be a virus or an essential part of windows ...

csrss.exe - csrss, Ahlem.A Worm, Virus Notice!

Most AV programs should be able to control it if it is the virus

ok
im useing the free version of AVG also if i put the scan speed to fast does that give the scan less chance of finding a virus in a file or does it just use more cpu

also does turing it to fast effect the quality of the serch or does it just increase the CU useage? cheers

On fast mode it will probably skip certain files, it's best to do the scan in full deep mode to totally scan your computer. As Barman said, it may not be a virus. You can try scanning with Malwarebytes and Spybot as well. If they don't identify crss.exe as malicious then I wouldn't mess with it. As to your hard drive working while you're not doing anything, it may be Superfetch working if you have recently just started using your computer. You can learn about it here.

But I would not recommend disabling superfetch.

I, right now, have two csrss.exe running and they are both "Client Server Runtime Process"es...

I believe they are genuine Vista exe, don't know what they do though. I have had as many as five or six csrss.exe running at any one time.

However i currently have 13 svchost.exe running so i have other things to worry about :)
