Hey, is Vista 64 ok for my new pc?

Hello guys im new here, so i just wanted to ask you if my new pc can run Vista 64. I bought this pc for gaming, so im not sure if games from 2004-2007 like Doom3, NFS Most Wanted, NFS Carbon, BF2, Unreal 2004, Oblivion, WoW, and even older games like CS 1.6 and Wc3 FT could actually run better in this OS. I know the new ones does.

My system specs:

Amd 64 Phenom x3 (Tricore) 8450 2.1 @3600
4GB Ram DDR2 @800
XFX Geforce 8600gt 1gb @540 clock
Samsung 320GB 7200 16mb

but...
my mobo is a "Foxconn M61PMV am2+/am2" made for Windows XP but supports Vista. And ill have to keep this mobo for a while, so should i go back to XP or go for Vista 64.

Btw, is Home Premium SP1 the best option for a medium domestic user hardcore gamer ? or should i get Ultimate version?

Help me guys, sorry for my bad english :$

Re: Hey, is Vista 64 ok for my new pc?

Hi Rodux1,

Your motherboard should be able to run Vista 64-bit without any problems. Here is a link to the main page for your motherboard: Foxconn - Products: Motherboard
This board has an NVidia chipset (specifically NVIDIA® GeForce 6100 + nForce 430). You can get the latest driver here: nForce Driver
In addition, here is a link to the latest driver for your graphics card: GeForce Release 178

Hope that this helps.

Re: Hey, is Vista 64 ok for my new pc?

Your machine will deal with Vista x64 without issues, provided you can get x64 drivers for all your devices.

Games will also not be a problem. In fact, your games should run better on x64 because of better memory and process management. The oldest games I've run on Vista x64 are "Empire Earth" and "Diablo II" (my favourite).

I went with Ultimate right from the word go. "I'd rather have them and not use them, than need them and not have them."

Any new Vista DVD you buy today should have SP1 pre-loaded...

Re: Hey, is Vista 64 ok for my new pc?

I suggest that you get the Ultimate version. It will do everything that the Home Premium edition can, plus you will have the additional functions available should you need them. Retail versions, both full and upgrade (you can save money by opting for the upgrade version), of the disks are available with SP1 pre-integrated, so you should have no worries about that (I expect that disks with SP2 will be available in much the same way when SP2 is finalised).

Re: Hey, is Vista 64 ok for my new pc?

Well i went for Ultimate 64 sp1, but is it true that i need 2 hd for better performance ? keeping games in one different partition...

What should i do about that?

How should i divide my HD for better "gaming" performance ?

Re: Hey, is Vista 64 ok for my new pc?

I have my games and Windows installation on the same HDD and my PC runs fine. Only thing I do is move the swap file on to the 2nd HDD, but even then I don't notice much difference as to running it on the same HDD as Windows.
