Blue Screen Of Death

It has become a routine. This dreaded screen (which I've never seen during my seven years with Windows XP) has poped up several times.

Is there a way to see what causes the problem. I was denied access to some mini dumps.

Dell Studio XPS EOM.

Dell Studio XPS EOM.

Go into Safe Mode and try to get access.

Hi dubnikova and welcome to Vista Forums

What is displayed on the BSOD? Use a digital camera to capture the image if necessary, and post back including the image as an attachment.

Re: Blue Screen Of Death

To all,
I'll try to capture the next screen on my digital camera. Safe mode did nothing. The machine is brand new EOM, and all the drivers are assumed to be new, except may be the Printer (Panasonic KX-MB781) and the scanner (Epson V700). But even those two are relatively new, and their CDs have Vista drivers (probably not 64 bits how can I know?). Are the dumps any help?

The STOP 0x9F (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE) is a problem with a driver, as can be seen here: Bug Check 0x9F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Your best solution right now would be to visit the website of your computer manufacturer (Dell Drivers and Downloads) and download all updated drivers. This should be done also for other attached hardware, such as your printer (Drivers and Downloads - Support at Panasonic) and scanner (Epson America, Inc. - Support: Product Selection - Drivers & Downloads).

The drivers that are on the web should invariably be more up-to-date than those provided on CD

Re: Blue Screen Of Death

Thanks Peter.
I went to the Dell site and downloaded several drivers. I suspect it was the Realtek audio driver that gave me the problem.

Re: Blue Screen Of Death

Yes, the the computer is working.
The BSODs appeared several times during last month. (I got the computer on 12/09/2008). I'm looking at the Reliability and Performance Monitor. In total I had 10 (of which four occured on 1/1/2009) BSODs all of the 9F type.
Now I'm not sure which driver is at fault, since the computer is so new.

Just give it a few hours of regular use to confirm whether or not the driver update has truly solved the problem, then we'll know.

I never use the CDs that come supplied with new hardware, and have made it a point to always download the drivers from the web, which are invariably more up-to-date, and more stable, than the production CDs...
