DVD Maker not making 16:9

I am having a great deal of trouble creating 16:9 DVDs with Windows DVD Maker. I have it set to make 16:9, the movie itself IS 16:9 but the program insists on squishing it into 4:3. I've wasted two discs already and cannot find anywhere else within the program where I can deal with aspect ratio.

If you have any info or tips they would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
K

Could it be that your media player / DVD playing software is only playing at 4:2, or have you tried it in a regular DVD player attached to a TV and independent of your computer?

I have tried both the discs in my regular DVD player. The first one I made I had not changed to 16:9 in the options, I just figured it read the format of the movie being burned and went from there burning it in the same aspect ratio it was produced in. After I found that it had "squished" the image, I searched around the program for options and changed it to 16:9. I then burned another disc, in 16:9 and when I put it into the DVD player, It was once again at the 4:3. So I am a little lost as to where to go from here.

Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it

Re: DVD Maker not making 16:9

what is the size (in terms of GB) of the ISO that it makes? or if you are burning directly to disc, when you put the disc back in the drive on the computer, how large it is?

If it is close to the capacity of the platter itself, then it might be that DVD maker is automatically crunching it because a full 16:9 / 16:10 sized movie simply will not fit on that platter....

Which may then be related to any optimization settings that might be enabled....

Wow, you're quick, thank you So the disc ha 4.7 GB of space, the movie on my drive is listed as being 700MB, and when the disc I have made is inserted into the computer is shown as being 4.29 GB. Would that be too close to the disc capacity?

If I just burned the file itself to disc would it be preferable? I was trying to open some space on my computer primarily, then thought it would be nice to have a hard copy in case I wanted to watch it and didn't have my computer.

I hope this new info is of some help,

K

Re: DVD Maker not making 16:9

Yeah, I think that is what is causing it to have issues - I bet even money that the Movie Maker would make ~6 GB ISOs of that movie in 16:9.

Nah, I prefer ISOs myself - they run a lot better through Virtual Clone Drive...

Ahh, nuts! Oh well, at least I know now, I will have to wait til I can get some larger capacity DVD's to mess with it then. You would think the program would be intuitive enough to TELL you it couldn't fit the files on as you wanted them, CD burning programs have always done that after all, could have saved me the discs. Think I'll send a bill to Bill, LoL!

Well, I really appreciate the time you took to help me out with this, I hope you have a great weekend
