Vista - windows explorer (not responding)

Hi all.
When ever i try to delete a program or some file types off my computer, a popup comes on saying Windows explorer has stopped responding, and it closes all my windows and freezes my computer for a couple minutes. This has become very annoying as i am trying to clean up old files on my computer. Any help is greatly apreciated

Try using browser with no add-ons. If freezing stops, then it is due to one or more add-ons , in which case you just have to manage them...disable the offending one/s.

START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > IE with no Add-ons.

Internet explorer works fine, my problem is with windows explorer

does this happen with any program or shorcut or is it a program in particular????

can you try deleting your files in safe mode???

when i try to delete games, emulators, desktop shortcuts and some random files. it also happens when i try to use Microsoft open office 2007 when it is not opened from the desktop shortcut

can you try it from safe mode as i explained??

reboot your computer and before windows starts up can you keep pressing F8

then from there choose safe mode

can you try deleting your files there??

Aaaah...windows expl., eh? The last time I had problem with it was due to one auto update..I forgot which. Hence, I am no longer on automatic schedule.

Did you have recent updates that you can uninstall (you can always install them back)

i tried rebooting in safe mode and what happens then is all my windows closed. I havent deleted recent updates yet... i secretly don't know how to do that

like the window i had open to move the file closed, as in disapeared, and i opened a couple other windows, just like other folders and stuff and they closed to
