If this is in the wrong section, could it be moved to the right one please, thanks

Im having a problem with my mouse, it started a couple of days ago, it keeps sticking for about 5 seconds at a time and a "bink" sound starts as if its trying to find it, i cant do anything with the mouse at all.
Occationally in the bottom right corner a symbol comes up with

"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfuctioned and Windows does not recognise it
The location of the device is shown in bold type"

The problem is there is nothing in bold type, its getting really annoying now

Ive cranked up Norton and theres no viruses ect on my comp

Laptop (2 months old)
Optical mouse, bought at same time as laptop
Vista 32

Thanks for any help

what is the laptop model and the mouse??

are you using an OEM os (meaning it was already installed with your laptop)??

is there by any chance dust in your usb ports???

can you also provide a screen shot of your device manager ???

I dont know much about comps but here goes

Compaq Presario
CQ50-110EM
Notebook PC

On the Optical Mouse it says

PC / LINE
PCL - WS01
5V 100mA

The operating system was pre installed when i got it

when it happens check back with the screens of the error

also when the mouse is unrecognized can you show me the device manager again

there should be a item with an exclamation point

can you click and can save a screenshot of that...

also when that happens i will give other instructions

when the error happens do not do anything.....

also record the time when it happens....

Hi
Its started doing it again, it was fine for about an hour/hour half last night but has started up again today :( , theres been no error message come up yet - even then it only came up a few times - and there is no problem on the device manager i can see, all the drivers say up to date
When it happens the Hour glass apears next to it

It could be that your mouse is simply ceasing to work properly, or is only working intermittently. Have you tried an alternative mouse?
