True, it's just that..the method described above for a bootable USB stick saves the trouble for buying a new DVD drive, internal or external.

I use Bootable USB sticks for any kind of windows installation, XP, VISTA , WIN7...works so fast I won't ever go back to DVDs...

I did what you guys told me, tried double clicking on the vista dvd but said setup cannot continue on this version of os. i typed diskpart, then typed select j:\ (j:\ is my flash drive) then clean but said select disk and try again...did I do something wrong? Please help!

I was following steps from this website you guys suggested but like I said, did not work.

You may probably buy a new dvd drive as it will always be useful in such instances. then you can boot to WIN RE.
Open command prompt and type
bootrec /fixboot (Press Enter)
bootrec /rebuildbcd (Press Enter)
This must overwrite the existing the boot sector and rebuild the damages caused to it.

Re: Bootmgr is compressed

Okay, I figured it out, but is there any way to create a partition without formatting the flash drive? I tried to partition it but there was not enough space, although there was at least 7 gigs on the flash drive.
