Remap Windows shortcut keys?

I am wondering if there is a way to remap the Windows shortcut keys. A specific example is the [Win][E] opens Windows Explorer but I would like that key to open a different file manager. I have tried different key tweaking programs and the ones I have tried do not allow changing a combination of keys such as the Win key together with another key. I would like something that would also work in Windows XP.

I would guess that Windows bans any changes to the Win key, as it is THEIR key. I would think it would not be a huge problem if you are willing to use anther key such as ctrl or alt.

The problem I have is that the programs I have don't allow combination keys such as [Win]+[E] or [Ctrl]+[E]. Are there any that allow that?

Also, so many programs use other [Ctrl] or [Shft] combinations. If there was a way to set [Ctrl]+[E] to open a file manager, would it be a global setting or would the next program I open take control of the [Ctrl]+[E] combination and use it for whatever it wants to? Who knows, I may end up exiting out of a program without saving by pressing a shortcut key instead of opening a program I was expecting to open.

the only way i can think is with a keyboard that lets you assign macros

The Razer Tarantula (I have it and love it) allows you to make macros with the 10 extra keys it has. I havent gotten it to work yet, but it says it can.

I just assign my favorite programs to the [Ctrl]-[Alt]-key combination.

For example, Ctrl-Alt-C to open Google Chrome.

Find out where in the registry the setting for that Win Key combination is and then change it. Don't forget to back up your registry before doing so.

try autohotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/). AutoHotkey is a free program that allows you to create customized macros that can perform all sorts of operations. You can assign anything you want to any key. I haven't tried it but it seems to be what you are looking for
