Hii

While i was trying to uninstall Symantec Antivirus software from a vista installed pc using a tool, user profile got correpted. Some important data were stored in the desktop.So after restarting iam unable to access my dektop data though iam able to view it after searching it. Plz share the possible ways to retrive back my data.

You were trying to uninstall Nortan? You do realize that there is a special program you have to use to get it off completely? You should have paid Geek Squads crap service overcharge and had them do it.

To get the data back, take it to someplace like Data Doctors.

Norton is made by Symantec...

But I may have been a little harsh. But I am right about the uninstaller.

So if you need important data off a corrupted user, try booting in safe mode and running ad-aware and such. Though if this is a windows corruption, not a virus infection, then you may want to see a professional data saver (as in take it to Geek Squad....)

I cant reinstall Vista as i dont have its set up. Without uninstalling how can i retrieve it back? And i dont know about Geek Squad.

What do you mean you dont have it set up? you are running it arent you? do you not have a disk or recovery partition?

Try a system restore to a point before you uninstalled Norton, then use norton's removal tool to remove it from your system. Start using Vista's built in file backup utility to backup your data.

You don't uninstall it. You get a Vista install disk, and put it in your computer. When it asks you what you want to do, choose install/repair

Actually i did not get any vistall install disk with my laptop.iam told to take a backup of the vista in a DVD. But unfortunately i couldnot take it .

I tried system restore.but it is also went in vain.i strongly feel that the user profile has got deleted.

Reinstall from the Recovery Utility- or borrow someone's Vista disk to reinstall.
You can also get a recovery O/S disk from the OEM.

Thanks to all.I could retrieve my data back.i used one recovery tool to do that. And then created a new user profile. Now its working fine ..:)

Good for you. Its always fun to see people do stuff they never knew they could do. Glad you got it fixed.

P.S. When you get a system, especially a Pre-Built, make sure to try and get the Install Disk.
