Solved Clean ReInstall Vista Affects ALL Drives?

Hello,
Gateway tells me I need to do a Vista X64 clean re-install to possibly solve a severely underperforming CPU (I say its a dead Core).

My system has two SATA HD's with 640Gb. My partition is:
Drive C: 87 free/283Gb Windows on this drive
Drive D: 6/15Gb free Recovery files
Drive J: 255Gb free of 300Gb

I have a GATEWAY install DVD disk. Gateway Recovery does not go back far enough to solve dilemma.

My question is will the Clean install of Vista erase data on all drives or only C (& D) where Vista is stored?

Can I save data on J Drive, install and retrieve data from J?

If you grab a new drive, then you can install onto it, and should be able to access it from the other drives and vice versa.

If you just want to reinstall, when you go into the install, just click on the volume you want to modify, and the other partitions on the drive or other drive will not be harmed.

No matter how many times you reinstall Vista its not going to help/fix a failing CPU. I'm confused as to why you wouldn't get it replace, especially since the computer is only nine months old and still under warrenty???

But you have more info than I do but...

I think it is time to put this one to bed.
The history of this Processor is Not Good: CNET only gives it 3/5 stars, NewEgg gives it 4/5 stars with a Customer Comment indicating problems with Core 3(in addition to the TLB fiasco).
Too Bad Core Temp doesn't work w/Phenoms. It appears AMD went to great lengths to try to hide their problems with this CPU. (any Intel MB/CPU suggestions?)

At this last Gasp juncture I guess I will have to re-load Vista. YIKES!
I bought it at Circuit City and if I cant get it to work I will go to Gateway/AMDs Doorstep to return it. I Will Get Satisfaction.

Hello Everyone,
I did a clean re-install of Vista and now get comparable test scores with published results.
Also, I Now see 4 cores in CPU-z, Task Manager, m-CPU Vista Gadget....

I Really did not want to send PC back to Gateway. They Did provide me with a Return Authorization so at least they were willing to look under the hood.

FYI my scores: WinRAR Benchamark = 1,085, 3DMARK06 = 10, 300.

...and Yes, the clean reinstall only affected my C drive.
