| Vista Ultimate x64 | re: no desktop If you can open Task manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del (or Ctrl+Shift+Esc), what happens if you click on the "new task" button in the lower right corner on the applications tab and type explorer.exe and enter - do you get explorer to run? --ch |

| Windows 7 Ultimate | Re: no desktop First we need to diagnose the problem properly.Maybe there's bad sectors or the windows registry is corrupt.Have you tried reinstalling windows? Also have you tried using CHKDSK.I you cant run CHKDSK from within windows you may need a vista repair disk to use command prompt, which brings me to another point.Follow this tutorial and repair windows.
