| | Re: new mobo...... The OS you have now is tied to your motherboard and it won't activate but you might be able to do the phone activation and just tell MS that you had to replace the motherboard. |

| | Re: new mobo...... Hi, M$ won't deal with it now. They have handed all responsibility for oem preinstalls to the oem. You will need to contact Acer and explain you need to change your mobo. The recovery disc will not work with a different mobo. Acer may send you one that will. Otherwise, get hold of a Vista install disc - the right bit version (32 or 64 bit ) .Install using that and the product key stickered on your laptop. You will probably need to call Acer to activate it. Hope it helps SIW2 |

| | Re: new mobo...... Hello thepizzaman, Since the product key number is tied to only the original computer for a OEM, you usually will not be able to use it again unless the OEM is willing to activate it for you. I would contact the OEM Acer, and let them know what motherboard you plan on upgrading to see if they will do a phone activation for you first to see if you can or not. Good luck. I hope they will activate it for you. Shawn |

| | Re: new mobo...... Hi pizzaman, Probably worth calling Acer , as Shawn says. Afaik the license doesn't let you move it to another machine, but you should be able to upgrade your existing one. Persuading Acer is another matter, but it's got to be worth ringing them. SIW2 |
