Windows Vista Home Premium Issue

I am having issues with Vista. I accidently turned off the computer while it was updating with Windows Update. Now, when I try to turn it on again, the only issue is the Windows Profile screen where you log in to your account. There is nothing showing on the screen instead. The mouse works alright. I can move around on the screen. Would anyone be able to help?

Hello Jerry, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before this can fix this for you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Yea. Thanks for the advice. I tried the System Restore. I was not able to since I did not save any Restore points on the computer. Would there be another way to solve this issue?

My Computer

Jerry,

Are you able to log in and start Vista at all?

If you can, then see if you can finish installing or reinstall the Windows Update.

If not, then you can see if running a Startup Repair may help. Otherwise, you can do a Repair install other than a clean reinstall if need be.

No. I am not able to log in to Vista. I appreciate the advice. The screen shows nothing. I am able to move the Mouse. I tried the Start Up repair, and still has the same issue of showing nothing. I will later attempt a Repair Install.

My Computer

Jerry,

It takes a little bit longer than a clean install by itself would, but you save more time by not having to reinstall all your programs and settings again.

I have also heard of problems with a black screen and a movable mouse. They're various ways to fix it (search google) but I would also at least try your startup repair first.

Also there have been cases where using the last known good configuration setting by tapping F8 before start has worked, it simply depends what got messed up within your system.

It is an affordable fast little one.
Have you gave the computer some time. I have had the black screen and movable mouse issue after an update. It freaked me out at first but then learned to walk away and make a sandwich or wash the car or knit a sweater, Vista always comes back.
