... my machine says I need to permission to move a folder to another? It first says "I'll need to provide admin permission to move this folder", then I see a file operation window, then another You need permission window with a try again and cancel button. Whats going on here? This UAC is proving to be more anoying then good. I'm pretty sure it's why I could not connect to a FTP server through a game to download an update.

How do I give myself admin power even though I am admin? LOL. This is crazy.

Hi Charles,

This is standard behaviour. Although you are running as an administrator, you are only running with standard privileges. This is because an administrator account has two tokens which determine the mode that it is running in. For normal activities, it uses the standard token. When an operation requiring higher privileges is invoked, you get the UAC pop-up. This is where you grant the administrator permission to run with full administrative credentials (i.e., use the administrative token) for THAT operation only. Note that I do not recommend that you run using an administrator account - instead you should create a standard account and use that instead. The only difference you will see here is that you will have to provide the name of the administrator account and its password at any UAC prompts.

Dwarf, Useful information and nice idea.

cvriv charles, You many also try SubinACL which will reset permission for Registry, System drive and Windows directory.

Let us know if you are ready to reset permission so that i can add the Batch file.

Good Luck.

Please do not revive (hijack) threads greater than 1 year old (this one is 3.5 years old). Please reply to this in a new thread, using the content in this message.

I do not know why you're thinking you need to turn off asp.net. You need to provide more information about the problem you are experiencing. You indicate that you no longer have administrative rights to open or delete files. How long ago were you able to do this without a problem? What events or actions took place between then and now that you can remember? Can you run ANY programs installed on your computer, or is it just certain ones? Have you tried shutting down and restarting fresh?
