Unpartition D:\?

Hey all,

I have a computer from HP, Hp Pavilion 3200n slimline, running vista 32, 4 gb Ram, Athlon 64X2, I have my C: drive partitioned to accomidate for the making of the recovery disks. Can I remove the D:\ to make my C:\ drive bigger?

Hello Ryan,

The D: partition is the OEM recovery partition used to reinstall and restore Vista back to factory default settings. I would not recommend it unless you just really need the space though. Before deleting this partition (if you decide to), you should create a set of Vista recovery discs to use to reinstall Vista if and when needed.

This tutorial below will show you how to if you still would like to delete it. You will need to delete the partition twice before it becomes unallocated so you can extend C: into it.

Thanks Shawn, I have made the recovery CDs, so if I have those I can get rid of the OEM part right? I just want to make sure.

Now that unpartitioned it, my c:/ only says it has 298gb, when it suppose to say 320, is it because vista takes the other 22gb?

Right where it should be. The reason is that the stated capacity is using the decimal format, while everything else is using binary. A little light reading to explain it,
