Solved vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

hi..

after searching for hours on google on this website i did find some threads about the whole 32bit vs ultimate 64bit and one thread will say you should update the other says no stay away from it..

I cant make my mind up:/ so i thoguht maybe with my lap top specs it might help give a bettr idea of if i should?

so i bought ultimate vista with both 32 and 64 bit i did install 32bit because i was stupid and did not look at both cds just wonderd why it had 2 cds, so after i realised by then i have installed everything with 32bit and have the lap top the way i like it... so is it really worth formatting re installing everything i backed up 64bit versions of drivers and nod32..etc not sure if diskeeper works with 64bit or tune up utilities those where two programs i payed for..

but also my lap top i am not sure if its good enough to have a good experience on the 64bit, i know it can install it but not sure if it will make a difference?

i have HP Pavilion dv5-1111ea Entertainment Notebook PC

Hello Paliometoxo,

I say that if you have 64-bit drivers available for all of your devices and none of your programs have issues with 64-bit Vista, then I would use the 64-bit Vista. This way your computer will use the full 4 GB of RAM instead of just up to 3.2 GB of it also.

It's really up to you though, but the article in this post can help show the differences between 32-bit and 64-bit to help you decide.

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-news/99613-64-bit-more-than-just-ram.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

its weird because the upgrade was disabled so i chose format, and then when it asks me to chose which drive to install c: or recovery D: i chose C: but it wont let me press next it has a error on the bottom saying "to continue installing with this cd key you must chose a partition with a genuine copy of windows on" so i click advanced options and it has a option to format, the new button is disabled, so i figure maybe i could press the format option and then it will accept 64bit, but what if i format and i get the same message and waisted a format.. but i figure since it wont have a os it wont tell me about installing on a partition with genuine windows,,.. even though my windows is very much legit.

thanks, was very helpfull. what i was wondering is.. when you install for the first time, why does it have to then be updated? i did all of it just wonderd why, i was tempted to just start using it after the first clean install.

also when you say about the ram, my 32bit was showing full 4GB, i read some forums that 32bit is working with 4GB and others not.. so it shows 4GB but cant use it all?

With a upgrade version Vista, it is required that you do a upgrade install with it from the same or older version OS. Only installing it once will not meet this requirement, and you will not be able to activate Vista until the second install. :(

Vista 32-bit will show your full 4 GB, but it will only be able to actual use 3.2 GB of it.

Go with 64bit over 32bit. 32bit is just pointless imo. I've never came across a program or driver that I use that doesn't have a 64bit or the 32bit version doesn't work. And get some more RAM! RAM is dirt cheap nowadays and you can easily get 8gb RAM for under $50. But yea, go 64bit over 32bit, it's a lot better.

32bit - limited to 4gb TOTAL memory (ram, gfx, etc)
64bit - limited to 16exabytes TOTAL memory (ram, gfx, etc)...yes, thats 16 million terrabytes (i think thats the ratio the wiki page said on it).

oh i see, i did it format and update and after many hours installed everything, drivers and all rpograms seem to be ok with 64bit no problems..

well the ram alone is reason enough to be on 64bit lol why do i have 4GB ram if i cant use it.. hopefully upgrade it to 8gb aswell, seems like 4gb is minimum for 64bit ultimate

i hope to upgrade to 8GB but the lap top did come with 4.. with 2GB i thought it just wasent enough for vista even home premiume.. i thought ram was more expenssive then that now, there is a sony vaio lap top i wanted £3000 it had everything and when i put the ram up to 8GB it was an extra 800 or so, i though upgrading ram nwo would be a lot more expenssive.. ill ask hp see how much they want to put me 8

Of course it'd be more expensive to let the computer maker to install it, they overprice everything. My next laptop I'll just build my own laptop XD.

Paliometoxo,

I'm happy to hear that you got everything installed and running ok. A extra 800 for just 4 GB more of RAM is to much. You can get the RAM sticks separately and put them in yourself a lot cheaper. The store where you get the RAM may even put them in for you for much lower fee.
