System Information

Hi there

I have just recently done a full wipe of my hard-drive with Windows Vista x32 'Ultimate' on it and came across this issue in reguards of my 'RAM (Memory)' being lower than what it shows when I boot my computer up. I have 8gb RAM in which hasn't been tampered with, and ran fine before the reinstall of my OS took place and now, both System Information and Diaxlog show my RAM as *2302mb* which I am totally confused about :/

Here is my log from Diaxlog:
Code:
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.080917-1612)
           Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: NVIDIA
       System Model: NFORCE 780i SLI
               BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
          Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
             Memory: 2302MB RAM
Page File: 822MB used, 3989MB available
        Windows Dir: C:\Windows
    DirectX Version: DirectX 10
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
     DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode
Any idea what may have caused this, or even so, can it be fixed? I would really apreciate information posted rather than be sent to websites to add to the confusion haha.

Kindest Regards

Re: System Information

Thanks buddy, will check link to see if I can resolve the issue. x32 came with the desktop when I bought it so never really thought about x64. Is there a huge difference between them both? *New to Vista so don't really know much* lol.

Re: System Information

Hi Syru$,

A few things in your post are confusing. Firstly, your specs say 64-bit, yet you mention 32-bit in the post. Have you got muddled up, or did your system originally have 32-bit and, if so, did you replace the 32-bit install with 64-bit? Secondly, I notice from the Build number that you haven't got SP1 installed. This important update has a lot of fixes included in it, one of which concerns the correct reporting of installed memory. Thirdly - have you installed the motherboard drivers yet?

Re: System Information

I have Windows Vista 32bit Ultimate installed on my machine. I have just noticed also that SP1 "isn't" installed where as Windows update obviously didn't download/install it to my machine. Could this be the problem? And I'm more than sure I have my motherboard driver installed :/ but even so, if I don't then the company I bought the desktop from, haven't provided me with the CD to install its drivers. This is my first time of re-installing/formatting on this machine. Would I be able to download the driver for my motherboad via the internet?

we need information on what motherboard you own and we could point you in the right direction, but you appear to have an Nforce chipset so the correct site would be http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_vista_15.23.html

Re: System Information

I just checked all what came with the desktop and suprise, suprise .. no mainboard driver CD, only provided me with ..

CD1. -ASUS Graphic Card Multi-Language manual
CD2. -VGA Driver (Vista32/64 174.74WHQL)

But yeah, you was correct about my motherboard being Nforce 780i SLI which I went to the EVGA website and has the same 15.23 driver which I'm currently downloading. I have also downloaded SP1 and will install that once my mainboard driver is updated.

Will keep you posted, and I appreciate everyones help, thankyou
