On hard disc was a new folder "name-PC" had appeared but this said "this folder is empty"
So have I backed up or not?

Hey Pooch,

No one answered my backup problem, so I will ask here as well.
I cannot back up to my HDD (seperate partition) because it is too small. It was 500 gigs (bigger than what Vista is on!) Here is the image:

500 gig is huge I really cant say what the problem could be  When I did mine I had to backup two partitions C:\ and D:\ I don't have an answer for that either, Maybe that is also your problem.

Can you do it from Se7en??

Maybe you would also benefit by using third party program

Yeah the Seven backup is amazing! Vista just seems to hate me. I found lots of instructions to increase the shadow volume size, but I don't know how...

I have done some research about changing Shadow copy size I hope this is what you are asking and it seems that you have to start an elevated command prompt (Menu, All Programs, Accessories, right click Command prompt and select run as Administrator)

You then give in

VSSAdmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=15GB

For= and On= are for the Drive letter, each drive has its own shadow copy and both letters must be the same.

MaxSize is for the size

If you want to check what is already set use this command

VSSAdmin list ShadowStorage

Finally the web page where I have got this info is:

Windows Vista: A Guide to Windows Vista Backup Technologies

I hope this helps you :)
