Vista X64 or Win7 ??

PeterDorr

On my way 2 advanced
I need to make a decision within the next 3 days or so.
I have a new HP XW8600 dual Quad Core with 16GB Ram with ATI 4780HD Toxic GPU and a Raid 5 with Cheetahs T10.

I will almost exclusively use it for Video editing with the Matrox Axio HD Board. To me speed is very important because of long rendering times it sometime take.

Vista X64 is fully supported and tested by Matrox with the hardware I have, so a pretty safe bet. However I have a few friends who are trying to pursuade me into installing Win7 instead, because it supposedly is much faster and since it uses a lot of the Vista engine it still is reliable/stable and it uses the same drivers as Vista X64 .

What do you guys think? Is it worth a try or is it still way too early?
Thanks for your opinion,
Peter

If you can wait,, wait for Win7 x64 Gold release
The Beta might give you some problems, maybe, maybe not. It's a Beta.

Win7 is the Vista/Server 2008 Kernal

Seven is certainly worth a try but is still only a beta and there are no guarantees that what works in Vista will work in Seven. There is a strong chance that it will, but if it's for work,Vista would probably be a safer option.

What the heck, I'll just give it a go. Worst thing that can happen is that I spend a day installing everything just to find out it does not work. In which case I do a "Format C:" and do a fresh install of Vista X64.

I'll Keep you posted.

Good luck.

One other thing, any builds below 7057 will expire at the beginning of July 2009.

I have the following ISO

7057 has lots of problems, I would go for either 7000 or 7068.

Ok, thanks for the tip.
I just checked Binsearch and there is also a 7086 available.
Is that any good?

If you mean 7068 yes it's good, if it's 7086 then it's fake.
