Odd system tray behaviour.

Occasionally I have noticed that certain icons can be missing on start-up from the systems tray (volume control etc). Usually restarting will remedy this & they are back when the system reboots.

However I have noticed that the hiding button doesn't always pop up early if at all sometimes. All of the icons seem to be in the tray including AV (Norton) & the usual ones, like Windows Sidebar. Today this seems to be happening. It was fine yesterday.

I have been on the computer for less than 30 minutes & the hide button has not appeared as it usually does.

Should I be worried about this? Everything seems fine apart from this.

Edit: I have been online for about an hour now & around 10 minutes ago the hide-button appeared. I think that is a long time for it to appear.

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

i have noticed similiar issues. Sometimes for whatever reason my antivirus has an error at startup, and the icon is not there, but it is easily resolved with restart.

If this only occurs infrequently I would not worry too much, If it happens all the time I would further investigate it. You can use reliability Monitor and the Event Log to check status, and troubleshoot issues.

Yes, I have noticed that my AV doesn't always appear. It doesn't happen regularly however & restarting always fixes the problem. I have heard rumours that this is a Microsoft bug that has been known about for a while. Thanks for the advice.
