Application failed to initialize.

I receive the following message when I have logged on to my computer:

Windows Defender
"Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this service to stop."
I have looked at Help and Support but have not found anything to identify what the problem is. I run Vista Home Premium 64 Bit OS.

Hello cevets, welcome to Vista Forums.

Have a look at Control Panel->Admin Tools->Services and make sure Win Defender is started and set to auto.

Keep us informed.

i actually had the same problem and checked what barefoot said above, everything is set correctly to started and automatic.

got a little help from the guys here and came up with this, click here.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista

went there and did what it says for msconfig but only with windows defender. i just made it so windows defender doesn't run on startup.
no problem since.

Not that I wish to be negative, but that doesn't actually fix the problem :)

Defender is meant to be a protective layer against malware. If it's been disabled, it can't perform its function. You might want to consider performing clean boot troubleshooting with other items that might be impacting Defender.

i never disabled it, idk it still runs and everything it ran a scan today at 5pm EST.

the only thing i could think of that would be in conflict with is is my anti-virus, it's the only thing i had installed on the computer besides firefox when i got the error.
