Bluetooth icon disappeared

Hi, I need help with getting the bluetooth icon in the notification area(system tray) back. I right-clicked on it and said 'remove' thinking it would hide it but now I can't get it back even when i customize the show/hide icons menu. I'm using a bluetooth usb dongle. Please help. Thank you.

Hello Pinamaraj, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if restarting the computer may allow it to return if it is listed in your startup programs. If not, then check in the installed software for the bluetooth device to see it has an option in the settings to show a icon in the notification area.

I experienced the same problem. I restarted and it came back...

Remove the USB dongle, restart your computer, once you are on the desktop, put the dongle back.

Thanks a lot for the help. This forum is brilliant. I never expected such quick and helpful responses. I went to control panel, hardware then bluetooth settings and checked the show icon option. It worked but the 'Safely remove hardware' icon still doesn;t show even after i select 'show' in 'customize icons' box. Any help with that? I tried a usb flash drive in the usb port but no 'safely remove' icon.

You can use this tutorial below to create a Safely Remove hardware shortcut to use as a workaround for now. :)

In Device Manager, check the device's properties under the Policies tab. If you have Optimize for Quick removal selected for them instead of Optimize for permformance, then it will not have the Safely Remove Hardware icon used for that device. This is usually for drives though.
