Vista - Computer locks up

today I was on the net(youtube.com to be exact) All of the suddon IE8 locked up. It wouldent respond and I couldent close it. . Then NOTHING worked and I had to do hard shutdown. Im on IE8 in Vista premium. I got IE8 from windows update. Is there a problem here? everything works fine now, but why would thgat happen?

Hello Nate,

It may have been a IE8 add-on that acted up on you. If it continues, then resetting IE8 may help.

I dont have any add ons- Is IE8 unstable sometimes?

It's running pretty stable for me in both Vista SP2 and Windows 7 RC, but any browser can have a hiccup I suppose. If it continues though, resetting IE8 would be a good first start to see if it can help before having to digg further into it.

well I just installed it yesterday, so It is pretty much reset isnt it? My Norton and malware bytes scans are clean. could It maybe just be an error. I mean not all computers are perfect right? They all have glitches right?

Total machine lockups are generally not caused by apps. There's an underlying, kernel-mode reason for everything being unresponsive.

If you check the Event Viewer (run EVENTVWR), was anything logged at the time of the lockup or in the few minutes before?
