Solved Black Boxes over Desktop Icons???

I am having an issue with these darn black boxes that will cover unique program icons, but my folder icons are ok. How can I stop this?

I read a thread on here that temporarily solves the problem, which was:

Change desktop color quality to 16bit
Restart machine
Change desktop color quality to 32bit
Solved.

BUT, everytime I restart/shutdown my computer, the same thing happens again. It wouldn't be bad if this was a rare occassion, but not all the time. I honestly do not think I changed any settings around concerning shortcut arrows and whatnot. So I don't know what the problem is.

Can anyone offer any advice please?

Hello Gudziel,

It does sound like it is the shortcut arrow overlay that is messed up. Using either method in the tutorial below should be able to restore the default shortcut arrow overlay for you.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67615-shortcut-arrow.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I'm at work right now (best way to use my work time, for personal reasons ;) ) so as soon as I get home I'll give it a try. I'm sure it will work, so I'll bump up the rep pts for you now for helping!

Thanks a lot Shawn

Shawn,

I tried your method and downloaded the Vista Shortcut Manager. Unfortunately, I am getting an error stating:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediatly.

The system cannot find the file specified."

Then I click continue and it goes right back to the main screen. Any ideas?

Thx Shawn,

Gudziel

Shawn,

I figured it out. I guess that amidst my "tweaking" I tweaked a bit too much. I have Auslogics BoostSpeed, and one of the options there is to get rid of the shortcut arrows. Once I unchecked it and restarted my computer.... Vwallahhh, everything is coolio.

thanks though for your help.

I greatly appreciate it. And for anyone who has the same problem I did, just check if you tweaked something, I was dumb. :p

Thanks again
