Solved Recovery Disk reinstall

Hello :)
well last week my mate had locked herself out of her laptop
I had to create a windows recovery disk
I used it to system restore her system to a date before she had set her password
and on the menu it said install vista
and on my old laptop that my dad has it's a 2gb compaq presario
they're not made anymore
it has low memory it's very slow and really
hardly useable without getting very stressed
so if I used the recovery disk I created
and click install vista
will it be like a new laptop?
there's nothing needed on the laptop
so nothing is being lost by resetting the laptop
it's got vista home premium x86
thankyou in advance :D

Hello Sound_Asleep,

You could use METHOD THREE in the tutorial below to reset the password instead without losing anything if still need be.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/102005-reset-user-account-password.html

If you used the OEM recovery disc that was created from your mates computer, then yes it will restore the laptop back to factory default like the day she first turned it on. You will not be able to use your dad's OEM recovery disc on your mates computer though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

well the recovery disk was made using my laptop
I downloaded the files for the disk
and burnt them using an ISO burner :D
so I should be able to restore it to how it used to be
just by using install vista on the recovery disk I created?
ofcourse I shall keep note of the vista product key before I do it though :)

Unless you laptop is the same OEM brand, model number, and Vista version installed, you will need to use a OEM Vista recovery disc created on your mates laptop instead.

What brand is her laptop? I'll see if I may be able to find detailed instructions on how to boot into the recovery environment on her laptop to do a factory restore.

my dads laptop that needs restoring is a compaq presario c200 home vista basic
they're discontinued now :(
they apparently had alot of problems
with the screen which mine has
though the keyboard is ok
it's very very slow and it's only 2 years old
