Solved Deleted 'Desktop' folder by accident....

Ok, so i deleted the 'desktop' folder by accident from the My Documents window (or just above my documents folder)...

Now the 'Desktop icon' at the top of the folder list shows a different set of shortcuts/folders (incl. RecycleBin, Network etc etc)... the now 'yellow' desktop folder that is under the 'user' is messed up.

I've attached 2 screen shots because i'm sure my explanation is poor. Anyway, this is driving me crazy - can't figure it out. I've been messing around with it for hours - at one point i had 'desktop' with about 15 'desktop' subfolders......

help! please!
Thanks

this my be overly obvious but, have you gone into the recycle bin and checked if the folder is still there? if it is, all you need to do is right click on it and select restore.

you could just put new short cuts into that folder. I looked at my folder tree and compaired it to your screen shots and mine are the same. but my desktop is compleatly empty.

Hello Ryan and welcome to Vista Forums.

Is the yellow Desktop folder one that you have manually created, or one that Vista automatically created? Also, double check in OPTION THREE of this tutorial that the Desktop folder has the correct default location in the registry.

If Vista created it, then this tutorial can help show you how to fix the yellow folder icon.

If you created it, the delete the yellow Desktop folder. In the Start Menu search line type shell:desktop and press enter, then restart the computer to have Vista create the restored Desktop folder. You may sometimes need to restart twice.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
