Solved Desktop icons refresh on boot up??

Hello everyone! I am running Vista 64 Home premium. When I boot my system and reach the desktop, all my desktop icons are present and accounted for. Then, all of a sudden they will refresh. It's fairly quick when it happens, but is this normal? It happens on every boot. I have thirteen desktop icons counting the recycle bin.

Thanks!!

Can someone at least tell me if their Vista 64 OS does the same?

Yes, it happens also on my desktop. It's normal, Explorer has a cache of these icons and it makes a refresh every time it starts. You could see it if you kill explorer.exe process and restart it.

I do have one other desktop icon question. Occasionally when I boot my system and the icons refresh like we talked about, a couple of my icons revert to a generic style icon. They work just fine, but are now a white box type of icon. If I go to the folder that the icon points to, that same icon in the folder is also generic.

I have tried changing the size in "Advanced appearance settings", but it doesn't work. What does work is selecting "Inactive title bar" under the same "Advanced appearance settings", and increasing the item size. This puts the icons back to normal. I can then go back to "Inactive title bar", and re-set the item size back to what it previously was, and the icons stay.

A few days later, I will have to do the same thing again.

Any idea why this happens?
