Defragging

I have tried many times to Defrag my pc. I'm running Vista Home Basic 32.
No matter how many times I defrag, I get anywhere between 45 and 65 % defragged still at the end of the scan.
I have also used Defraggler that shows the colored chart in red where it is fragmented.
After running that program, it still shows a "sea of red".
Is this normal?
When I run PC Pitstop, it recommends that I do a defrag because it shows up always
as needing it.

Could use some knowledge here.
thanks

Re: Defragging

Hello bbqbrisket, welcome to Vista Forums!

It's not as important as it once was to defrag the HDD, if you have plenty of free space available for use then I would just let Vista handle it all on its own and not worry about what others say.

Re: Defragging

I am very curious as to why it is always around 50% fragmented after defrag.
MY real question is whether or not that is normal.

thank you for the input

Re: Defragging

Vista places some parts of the OS like the Master File Table (MFT) in the center of the HDD sometime, which has been known to cause issues like this; not a real problem in most cases.
