Bootmgr is missing

Help please!!!!!!!!!

My PC has two hard drives. Windows gave me the option on boot up of proceeding with either Windows XP or Windows Vista home basic which worked fine. I then installed Vista Ultimate 32 bit over the XP installation and again all seemed ok. However, the other morning I switched on the pc and got the dreaded Bootmgr is missing message.

I have tried fixing using the vista disc but when it says select the OS to repair nothing is showing. If i click next and then choose the repair option it goes through the process and then you reboot but the problem still remains. I have also tried the command prompt options but they make no difference either. The Bios recognises both my hard drives are there ok, what can I do next somebody please help.

Cheers Jay

Hi Braydon, thanks for the reply but I have already tried that and it has made no difference unfortunately. When I tried to use a program to recover some files it shows the c drive which it says has 45gig out of the 120 gig spare but I cant access it at all. C prompt says the drive is corrupt or something similar to that. Anything else I can try?

My PC has two hard drives.

No need to read further as I think I have you pegged... at least, I hope so. :p

Anyways, your problem should be a simple one, if you go to the Bios, your OS drive should be the DEFAULT boot drive but I am guessing the 2nd hard drive is defaulted now, hence, the missing Bootmgr.

It is just a matter or prioritizing the boot load. This is how I have mine

1.- Floppy Drive
2.- CD/DVD Rom
3.- OS Hard Drive
4.- Back-Up Hard Drive

Hi maddstone,

Do you get the message when you try to boot into Vista,

Or when you try to boot the dvd?

Not sure you need to reinstall Vista.

Running startup repair after booting the dvd will probably fix it.
