Advice on Custom PC

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone could help me here. I am going to attempt to build my own custom PC and know that you need the following components:

Motherboard
Case
PSU
CPU
GPU
Video Card
RAM
Audio card
DVD drive
Hard drive

I have decided on the Motherboard-Asus Rampage II Extreme and the Case- Thermaltake Tai-Chi VB5001SNA (Liquid Cooled).

Some of my questions which I hope you can answer are as followed:

Does the PSU come with the case? (Specifically the Tai-Chi)
Is the CPU and GPU with the motherboard? (Specifically the Rampage II)
Do I need extra fans for PSU, CPU and GPU if the case is liquid cooled?
Is the Video card the Graphics card?
Is the Audio card built into the motherboard?
(Specifically the Rampage II)
Have I missed out anything (Parts or Any Useful Information)?
Thank You So Much

    Hard Drives
Western Digital 500 GB 7200 Rpm Internal
Western Digital 1000 GB (1TB) External
    Case
Black Spider Gaming Case with Blue LEDs

Some of my questions which I hope you can answer are as followed:

Does the PSU come with the case? (Specifically the Tai-Chi) ---------- Not according to the Specs on the Tt product webpage

Is the CPU and GPU with the motherboard? (Specifically the Rampage II) ---------- If you mean, do the CPU & GPU come with the Mobo? Not unless you purchase that mobo as a combo package (read: Mobo+CPU+GPU)

Do I need extra fans for PSU, CPU and GPU if the case is liquid cooled? ---------- I would say NO, the case seems to have a few fans of it own + the liquid cool system... you should be good to go even if you go Triple or Quad SLI

Is the Video card the Graphics card? ---------- Yes

Is the Audio card built into the motherboard?
(Specifically the Rampage II) ---------- It looks like it does come with a SupremeFX X-Fi

Have I missed out anything (Parts or Any Useful Information)? ----- Well, you don't say what RAM, CPU or GPU you are looking to purchase. All I can tell you is make sure it is compatible with the Mobo

Thank You So Much

It appears that the Mobo uses the new Inter core so I won't be suggesting anything for you coz I know nothing about them... other will chime in later on though

Thanks for both of your replies AstaLaVista and thepizzaman. I'm thinking of getting 6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600Mhz RAM(?) and I forgot that the processor that I am thinking of getting is the Intel i7 975 Extreme Edition

I hope you could spare me some more time by answering these questions:

What is the difference between an Inter core and a [FONT=&quot]phenom core?
Are Intel core's bad?
Would I be able to use the i7 with a phenom core?
Is the i7 processor an Intel core or is the Asus motherboard?
Would I need to change my motherboard then?
What what be the best alternative motherboard?
How would I go about choosing the PSU, GPU and CPU?
Where could I find what is compatible with my motherboard?

Thanks a lot guys.

ok first off...... the intel is not a bad core.... just over priced
the intel core has a little more cache but the price difference is huge a 975 is $1000 if i'm not mistaken while a phenom II 955 is $250
yes the i7 is a intel core not the mobo
yes.... but there is a really good mobo for the phenom II that takes ddr3 (an asus mobo)
this one would be best :)
Asus ASUS M4A79T Deluxe Motherboard
psu and gpu...... a 1000 watt psu is enough for all of it.... try to get a modualr cosair
gpu get two HD4890's or a HD4870x2
and it should list all the compatibiltys on the website you buy it from

i hope that answers your questions :)
oh the big difference is price...... but same performance for the most part

Hello super_js,
Before you buy your motherboard it may be an idea to go here, (follow link), and see what sort of problems, and good results, other users are having with that type of board, now, im not saying that this board is good or bad, i wil leave that to you but i have found that a bit of research before hand pays off in the end, i have an asus board and am very pleased with it, very stable, check my system specs, i hope this has been of some help and not clouded the issue for you,

Thanks for your replies. I'm a bit strapped for time at the moment so will reply properly later. Could anyone suggest the best custom parts setup for an extreme gaming computer (Excluding Case) for a budget of £2000 to £2500 ($3500-$4100). By the way
if the parts are US then they probably would cost more even if the price was converted here in the UK :(.
Thanks a lot I just want to see your opinions because I'm not sure what parts I should get which should be high quality.

Unless you got money to burn, go for the latest and the greatest but, of course, if your money does not grow on trees, your best best if to choose the next step down for half the price (if not more) just because it doesn't have the "New smell".

If you don't know much about Liquid Cooling, I would stay away from it, more so if this is going to be your first build.

Part of what I did when building my rig was to go to a few different forums and checked what other gamers used and read between the lines as to what may be good for them may not be good for me, etc, etc. IN the end, you have to choose what you like the most.

Thanks everyone! That build would only cost me just over £1000 ($1600)!!! I could still bumb it up to £1500 ($2500) could anyone build upon thepizzamans parts, for example could you recommend a better GPU, CPU or even Mobo? Don't worry if you can't because I'll still be saving a ton on money.
Thank you all so much!

I know nothing about AMD or ATI for that matter, I have always been an Intel/Nvidia kind of guy, although, I have no clue why... it just happened.

I have always thought of AMD as the Work Force Horse, whereas, Intel has always been the Thoroughbred horse

Here's a nice comparison... AnandTech: AMD's Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

Remember the above benchmark? Well, here it is... Newegg.com - Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Here's the Intel Board as well, just for comparison purposes of course... Newegg.com - EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX X58 SLI LE Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Sorry pizzaman, someone's got to play "Devils Advocate" here... ;)

:P that would be you....
hm..... i wonder what mobo they used....... looks like a cheap one by those scores.....
but still..... you'd save $50-100 by goin AMD
also..... as far as horses go..... the workhorse is the more reliable but the Thoroughbred is the one with issues.... :)

ok i have been reading.......... the i7 920 is faster.... but also gets up to 70c when overclocking it to 3.8 (YIKES THATS HOT!) while the P2 955 is still below 60c
so one runs cooler the other a little faster...... its your choice :) but i've already stated mine :)
