physical memory

my sys says 4gigs of physical memory but i have 8 gigs of stix whats up & how do i eneble the rest ?

Two things

First are you running a X64 version or X86 Version? Cause if you are running a X86 you can only run 4 gigs.

Second can your mobo handle 8 gigs of ram?

im running vista x64 home premium my mo bo is an asus compatible up 2 16 gigs ram, although some of my programs come under the heading x86 ? is that what you mean?
my mother board is an asus p5qse plus

I looked up your mobo and it can handle 16 GB Check the BIOS to see if it is recognized there. And get back to us. If its not Try flashing it, i have a ASUS Mobo and it comes with the MObo disc that will let your easily flash your BIOS.

ok i looked it up in the bios & it says that its 8gig available & 8 gigs useable , is it just those cretain programs that wont use it or read all the ram.should i get out my mobo disc & reinstall it ? im doing all this bercause i think my machine should run a little faster than it is >next thing i will be doing is going through the prosseces to see if i can get rid of any thing that dont belong,although i run avg & adaware & sometimed glary to help with the maleware & virus stuff.its hard to tell if there the real prosseses or not

You could try reinstalling your mobo drivers but i don't think that will help. AVG does use alot of system resources, AVAST is also free and has a smaller footprint than AVG does you could switch your AV software.

also does vista say you have 8GB of memory if not there is your issue.

Press the Windows key and the Pause/Break key on your keyboard and verify that it's a 64 bit version of Windows that's installed.
If you don't have a Pause/Break key, go to Start and type in "control system" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

If this below is what you're referring to and you only have SP1 installed, it's a reporting error that will be corrected when you install the SP2.
