Solved notification area

How does one get rid of unwanted links in the Notification area?
By right clicking an unwanted item, one can hide it, but this does not remove it.

It depends on which one you want to remove:

If you just wanted to remove a system icon, then you can use this tutorial

If you wanted to remove a program's icon from the notification area, then you will either need to see if the program has an option to remove the icon from here or uninstall the program.

If you wanted to remove old notification entries from uninstalled programs, then you can use this tutorial to reset the notification icons to remove them.
