Possible 2 factory reset a Medion desktop pc that has vista home prem OS, w/o a disk?

I was recently given a Medion desktop pc (its a second hand one), and i want to recover it back to factory settings. I got nothing with the pc, no disks or anything.

It has one HDD which is partitioned into two drives, one of which is called "recover" and contains what i assume to be files that will reset the pc to factory settings and install all of the orginal content again. This drive has no .exe file in it, or any other file extention that i can do anything with. The appears to be no program that i can find that will recover the pc.

Does anyone have any suggestion on how i restore it factory settings?

Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. The DVD-rom is not working at the min, so even if i did have a disk i wouldnt be able to use it.

p.p.s. The pc has 2.8ghz processer (pentium D), 250gb HDD, 1GB RAM, Vista home prem OS

Btw, the pc also has no internet connection, however i do have another computor so i can download things and transfer them over. (i cant set up my internet connection because they drivers i need to run the wireless adapter are on a CD and i currently cant run Cd's)

thanx

edit: I think i might be making progress (assumin im heading on the right track?), when i press F10 during start-up i get the following come up on screen:

EDIT BOOT OPTIONS

Edit Windows boot options for: Microsoft windows Vista

Path: \windows\system32\winload.exe

Partition: 1
Hard Disk: cb352c78

[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
]
Then is says ENTER=submit ESC=Cancel

Now am i right in thinking that the partition needs to be changed to 2? if so how to i do it, becasue it wont simply let me change it as the only thing i have acess to is the bit in [] (thats the only bit i can change or type in).

Help?

Thanks again, Hayley

from what it sounds like the way the recover is setup you need some sort of disc from the manufacturer.

Ive already contacted the manufactorer for advice but so far ive had no reply other than an unhelpful automated one. And getting a disk is all well and good but the disk drive isnt working atm which is why im tryin to find another way to do it

you might be able to do a windows start-up floppy that may let you get into vista and do the recovery from there, but i still belive you will need a CD/DVD for it to work.

Re: Possible 2 factory reset a Medion desktop pc that has vista home prem OS, w/o a d

Hello Hayley.

I originally wrote this for HP machines but it will give you an idea of how to try it.

With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key. (or the F12 key)
It may take several attempts to do this, if the first attempt fails, try again.
That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.
It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

I hope it helps you, please post back to keep us informed.

Later  Ted

Re: Possible 2 factory reset a Medion desktop pc that has vista home prem OS, w/o a d

@ fadedrs: the PC doesnt have a floppy drive, and as i said having a disk would be ideal if my DVD drive was working, which is currently isnt and i cant get it to work after trying several different things.

@ bare foot kid: thanks for the reply, F12 key does nothing on start up, and the F11 key takes me into the BIOS, in which there are no recovery options (unless i missed them...). F8 is advanced boot options but that wont let me boot from partition for boot to repair windows. see orginal post for what happens when i press F10.

Re: Possible 2 factory reset a Medion desktop pc that has vista home prem OS, w/o a d

I am currently downloading a version of VHP and i have a virtual disk drive. so my plan is to transfer those on to the computor via my external HDD and reinstall vista over the top. Im not sure it will work but i dont really have another choice at this point.
