Error Installing Windows on a Partition

My friend recently screwed up her computer recently and I took it upon myself to fix it, thinking that running chkdsk or Startup Repair would fix the problem. I ran Startup Repair first, and I still couldn't run Windows, so I ran Chkdsk. Chkdsk found, repaired and deleted a huge number of corrupt, orphaned, and otherwise unusable files. After doing all this and getting permission from my friend, I have decided to go ahead and reinstall Windows. For some reason, I could not format the parition that Windows was originally installed on, so I deleted it and made a new partition on the hard drive. I still can't install Windows and it's driving me crazy. I got error code 0x80070057 when trying to format the first partition and while trying to install Windows. What does this error code mean, and what can I do to reinstall Windows?

I have not, but I will now that I know they exist. I'll see if that helps. Thanks.

Edit: I have now looked at the tutorial, and I've done everything up to formatting the partition. This is where my problem happens. I simply cannot format that partition. I've been trying to reinstall Vista, but my computer encounters an error when I attempt to format a partition for the install. I tried deleting it and making a new partition and still no luck.

Are there any other partitions being used for something on the disk? Otherwise you may want to try either this or this method to sort out your problem. It could be that there is a problem with the HDD itself.

Yeah. There's one partition that's being used for recovery and another that has MediaDirect. I'm going to try loading the driver for the HDD and see if that will help.

Fixed it. Windows wasn't being installed because the recovery partition was still there. A really odd thing for Windows to do, but my problem is fixed. Thanks for your help Submarine. Much appreciated.
