64bit RAM issue

I am running an ASUS P6T with OCZ 3 x 2GB on Vista Home Premium 64-bit. When I look at properties under computer it says I have 6.00 GB under Memory(RAM) and 64-bit OS under System type. The BIOS says I have 6135MB. However, when I look in Windows Task Manager under Performance under Physical Memory it says I only have 2046MB. Steam also reports that I have only 2046Mb of RAM.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?
Thank you for the help

is it allocated to something else like video?

also is that the "TOTAL PHYSICAL RAM" or the TOTAL PHYSICAL RAM AVAILABLE" there are two different ones.

I wouldn't think all 4 of those gigs would be allocated to video. My graphics card is a GTX 260, which has like about 800MB of memory.

In the Task Manager, under Physical Memory it says I have 2046 Total; 1238 Cached; and 14 Free.

I downloaded CPUZ and it says I have 6144MBytes.
I also found a CPU Usage thingy for the Vista Sidebar, and it says I have 2046MB Total RAM

I have a feeling that there is miss-communication going on between the hardware and Vista somewhere.

Hello skunkboy72,
Check the Asus site for your board, as there were some issues with Asus boards reporting the wrong amount of ram in windows, you may have to update your Bios. I had the same problems on a Striker 2 and a P5Q.

the most recent BIOS for Vista 64 from their site is 603. I checked my ASUS updater app and it said I had 603

Hello skunkboy72,

The Bios update thing would have been too easy.

The only thing i can suggest is to ask Asus and see what they have to say, i still think it's a M/Board thing, (hope im wrong) maybe a sensor on the fritz, but it may be worth checking back here to see if anybody has a solution

If you do ever have to update your Bios please dont do it through Window's, use the EZ Flash in the Bios, much much safer.

When you find a solution would you please post your results here, it could help somebody else, thanks and good luck.

skunkboy could post a screen shot of what cpu-z says you have for ram. install it and it is under the memory tab.

also under the SPD tab how many memory slots are listed.

@ Dwarf
Thank you a ton!
All my memory is now recognized by Vista.
I remember looking at that and trying to change it to show the full 6GB but it would only go to 2. I figured it was just a representation of the problem.

Thank you to everyone for their help with my problem.
