AVI crashes Vista?

Hi folks
This is more for interest / comment, as it isn't really causing me a major problem....
I have an AVI movie from my Cannon G9 camera. About 940M Bytes - 8 minutes long.
Every time I play it with Win media player, it TOTALLY crashes WMP and VISTA - its a horrid crash, with a black screen, a buzz from the HDD, and then a complete restart of vista, from cold.
Im not even sure it happens at the same place in the video each time.
It plays perfectly in WMPlayer on my XP machine, and on the camera.
But I think there is something strange with this file, because if I try to copy / paste it in Vista, SOMETIMES, the paste fails, and I get a file icon with properties = "0 Bytes". Seems OK with XP though.
Even more surprising, is that when I use VSO software's "convert X to DVD" program to try to rip it into VOB (or whatever normal DVD files are) it also crashes that, and takes Vista down as well. Always.
I have dozens of AVI's from this camera, and have converted dozens of them into DVD format with no problems in the past.
Anyway, just for interest really, but I'd love to hear some comments!!!
Thanks all
Trev
