I was browsing the internet and was going to install this one software, but noticed i clicked on the wrong button and AdvanceVirusRemover was installed. I looked on the control panal to uninstall it, didn't show up, so i went through and deleated all the files pertaining to the program. now, there is an icon on my tool bar that i can't click on and it blocks some of my stuff, like when i try opening a movie, saying the the "Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate your antivirus software." i ran a virus scan, got nothing. I even tried a full restore, since i just got this computer monday, and it was still there.

Any help on removing this program?

The best way to remove a program is to reinstall it first and then uninstall it. I have been using an absolutely brilliant uninstaller called REVO. And it's free!! and a million times better than the Windows uninstaller. It will go all through the registry deleting everything connected with the software.

Hi Graham ,

Yes Revo is excellent - I have been using it a long time.

However, the OP has AdvanceVirusRemover - that is MALWARE, despite the name - much better to use a specialised malware remover.;)

You have to be very careful with some sites,

You click on a link to take you to the program to download but when you read what is above the download button it is in fact a different program. This is a common trick which I have nearly been caught out on.

The Malware will tell you you have a virus when you dont, it is called a false positive.

Do as siw2 said and use the malware removal program.
