blue screen - 0x000000ED (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME)

Hello, I have Windows Vista Ultimate-32bit.

i have a dell xps m1530 laptop
while searching on there website, i found the solution for it, but cannot understand it..

http://support.ap.dell.com/support/topics/...;l=en&s=gen

0xED & 0x7B

Stop 0x000000ED (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME)

I was getting one of the blue screen error messages everytime... When I put the cd in, everythings fine until I come across the "LOAD DRIVERS" screen. I believe there's supposed to be a driver showing saying "windows vista" or something but nothing appears... the screen's just blank with two buttons saying "Load Driver"

which driver shud we load manually....

and "Next." I tried clicking on "Load Drivers" but I don't know which drivers to load or what to click.

and when clicking NEXT ...
startup repair
system restore
windows complete pc restore
windows memory diagnostic tool
cmd

none of the above works.

only recovery disk is available and i cannot see my OS hard disk...

Can anyone please help me?

Re: blue screen - 0x000000ED (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME)

This is the section that should cause your drive to be recognized:
Quote:
The SATA controller configuration in the system BIOS If the SATA controller gets toggled from ATA to AHCI mode (or vice versa), then Windows will not be able to talk to the SATA controller because the different modes require different drivers. Try toggling the SATA controller mode in the BIOS.
These drivers (the SATA drivers) need to be loaded so that Windows can access the hard drive. Once it's able to access the hard drive, then you'll be able to run the Startup Repair routines to see if it's fixable. If the above steps don't make the drive visible, then you'll have to manually load the drivers from a floppy disk (a USB one will do) - or it could be that the hard drive is dead....

So, have you run the built in Dell diagnostics to test the hard drive itself?

Re: blue screen - 0x000000ED (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME)

the SATA drivers is default to AHCI,
i did the vice-versa to it, but still its not reading the OS.

i have run the diagnostics, the test has passed.

which drivers to load manually and how to make the hard disk alive.
is it possible to recover all the files from the OS.. by connecting it to the desktop computer.

Re: blue screen - 0x000000ED (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME)

Read the "ReadMe" file at this link, then download the drivers and create a floppy disk from there: Intel® Matrix Storage Technology 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility for Intel® Matrix Storage Manager

I haven't done this in Vista, but did a bit of research - and you may be able to extract these files to a flash drive (they're less than 1.44 mB in size) and then point the "Load Drivers" thing at the flash drive to load the drivers.

That should let you access the hard drive through Startup Repair.

Recovering the data off the drive is a whole different procedure - so let's work on this first.

Sorry, but I don't have one either (mine broke about a year ago).

Try this free solution that I've used in the past: Universal Extractor | LegRoom.net
