Hello Vista Forums, I was thinking to make my computer faster and lose some space, so i went ahead and did a Error-checking and got the Vista Permission thing and continued and i checked Automatic fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors then pressed start and nothing happen , i ran Check Disk with admin cmd and works. I rebooted my computer to see if chkdsk works and its not theen tried to do the error-checking and still doesnt work. Then when i tried to use my Disk Defragmenter , i waited till the analysis finished then i got the thing that said your file performance can be improved, defrag now. And i clicked which disk i want to defrag and press ok , nothing happened and juss went back to analysis then your file performance can be improved, defrag now. btw i tried to use Defraggler and ran as a admin when i click analyze, nothing happens and i looked at the status and says Analysis failed, i even tried juss going defrag and the status said building file list failed.
PLEASE HELP ME GUYS! iv been stressing cuhs of my computer :o

i have trend micro internet security and i got blue screen when i got on my desktop

Click the link in my signature and under step 4 download the zip file and extract the shortcuts.

When you click them they open a cmd window, dont close that window. Be patient that window will dissapear by itself. These advanced shortcuts are the best free defraggers there are. To get better you would need to buy something like PerfectDisk, so dont bother with defraggler etc...

EDIT: forgot to say to get checkdisk to work, click on the vista start orb and type regedit in the search field and hit enter. Next navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Man

On the right hand pane you should see BootExecute right click on it and select Modify then past this in:

autocheck autochk /r \??\C:
PDBoot.exe
autocheck autochk *

Then click on OK and exit regedit. Then restart your pc.

MMMM ok you can do this instead. Click the vista start orb and type in the search bar cmd then right click on it and select Run as administrator

In the cmd window that opens type this defrag c: -b then hit enter and allow it to close by itself. It should take only a few minutes.

Next do the same thing again but this time type defrag c: -w This time it may take a few hours to finish so be patient.

Yeah thats it lol.

When you do the -b one the window should stay open but have a blinking cursor then the window should dissapear by itself. For the -w one it will say what you said above but have a blinking cursor. Be patient then it will say Defragmentation report for volume c and list some stuff underneath it. Be patient again and just leave the window open till it finishes by itself.

You can go to this link: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/165576-how-make-vista-more-responsive-faster.html?filter[11]=Performance%20Maintenance as that maybe explains it better than i can. If you go to page 2 on that link it will also show you how to run check disk using the cmd window.

I dont understand what you mean. How did you check disk for errors?

Everything you need i have said or is in that tutorial i linked to, just read page 1 and 2 of it and do exactly as whats said there. I'm going out now so someone else will have to help if you run into more difficulties following it. Good Luck :)

i right click on my c: then properties then tools error checking theen check now theen i check both box and start then it closes i think theres some bugs on my computer? idk
i thought theres a green thing suppose to load and nothing happen its hard to explain

My Computer

When you right click on your hard drive and select properties then click on tools and then click on Check Now put a tick in both the error checking boxes and click start

A box will then appear saying windows cant check the disk while its in use so you click on Schedule Disk Check . The next time you restart vista after the boot screen instead of going to the logon screen a disk check starts.

If it doesnt and you think your vista has become corrupt and theres major issues with it, then run a full virus scan and then backup your data and reinstall vista.

nichoray10 -- I feel your pain! I've been trying to get chkdsk to work for 2 days! FINALLY found this and it worked:

Re: Chkdsk will Not Run at Startup in Vista
I have 3 HP Pavilion 6500 all experiencing the same problem. The following procedure worked, I’m just not sure if it’s specific to HP. HP support was no help!

HP Laptop Vista Ultimate 64

Hit F8 once every second right after starting the PC
This gets you into the DOS looking screen with safe mode and other options, select Repair

Recovery manager starts
Select Advanced Options
Select computer checkup
Select command prompt

CMD prompt starts in X:
Enter C: to change to the C drive
Enter chkdsk /f
When asked to force a dismount select Y

Check disk should now start automatically.

Hope this works for you as it did for me. It ran chkdsk and fixed errors and now my hard drives is NOT dirty anymore.
