i still have the recovery disk i made like 2 mins after setting up my PC.

the only problem is will the recovery disk help reinstall vista?? or will my comp just stop working completely??

apart from the above questions i also have no idea how to format my computer, i know during the boot up process its in one of the TAB, DEL OR ESC menus what what one? and once i get into it then where do i go??

i know its a bit of a lengthy thread, but thanks to any1 who can help

Hi johnscott, Welcome to Vista Forum.
Recovery disk will not let you format your computer from the desktop. You will need a Vista DVD and you need to boot the computer from Vista DVD and then follow this tutorial to do a clean install.
Post back if you have any more questions or issues.

I m sorry John but in order to format the computer, you will need a Vista DVD. You can also buy a Vista DVD from stores like Bestbuy. :(

It just takes you to the recovery environment where you can perform some special diagnostics and access some advanced recovery functions in case your computer is not booting up. This is how to recovery enviromnent looks like:

You are Welcome. By the way, why do you want to format your computer? Is there something wrong with it? Many issues can be fixed even without reinstalling Vista.

well it seems to be running rather slow these past few days, not sure if ita virus or something, but im pretty sure norton should have caught it if it was indeed a virus.

i initially thought about uninstalling a number of programs i never use but the ones tht i have uninstalled havnt made much of a difference, so initially formatting my computer was my best chance at resolving the problem
