| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: Disk Defragmenter slowing down pc See the tutorial how to use the Task Scheduler in Vista. In the Task Scheduler, under the View Menu, make sure Show Hidden Tasks is checked. Then go down the list until you see Defrag. In the Window to the right of the tree view, right click on ScheduledDefrag and click Disable. Close the Task Scheduler. It shouldn't bother you anymore. Everyone has their own favorite defragger but I use Auslogics Defrag mostly. Now and then I use the Windows defrag on the command line with the undocumented -b switch to defrag boot files, as in C:>defrag c: -b Good luck. |

| Windows XP x86 Professional Service Pack 3, Windows Vista Ultimate x86 Service Pack 2 (VMware) | Re: Disk Defragmenter slowing down pc I've found a thread posted on another forum how to disable it from starting up. Although I'm not sure if I can give out the link here. It involves registry editing. Anybody can say if it's allowed to be given here?, because I remember on another thread a link was posted on another forum. |

Hiya Mike, I ran into this one and your idea to rename it is probably fine. I found a well rounded answer on the Microsoft Technet site from Ronnie Vernon. This is his answer which helped me greatly. original context "This is a common problem with that RSS feed synchronization task. Here is the fix. Open the Task Scheduler. On the View Menu, select the 'Show Hidden Tasks' option. In the left side menu, select 'Task Scheduler Library'. In the Center section, right click the 'User_Feed_Synchronization' task and select Delete. Exit the Task Scheduler. Next, select Start / Accessories. Right click 'Command Prompt' and select the 'Run As Administrator' option. Click 'Continue' on the UAC prompt. In the command window, type the following command. msfeedssync enable Press ENTER. This command will replace and refresh the 'User_Feed_Synchronization' task. This will not affect the RSS Feeds you are subscribed to." |
