Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error!

Hey guys!

Recently I've been waiting to reproduce a problem that has caused an error message as stated in the title of this thread and luckily got it this morning.

The error message reads:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error!

Program: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unsusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Here's what I know about the error:

1. It happens when graphical changes occur in my display. Such as but not limited to:
*Alt Tabbing from games
*Closing games
*Logging On
2. It does not reoccur everytime, it seems that the error is not consistent.
3. Dreamscene always closes once explorer.exe restarts.
4. The games I play are:
*Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne (Version 1.20e)
*Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (Version 9.1)
5. Windows is fully updated.
6. In scanning with Avira AntiVir Personal, Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Windows Defender, nothing is found.
7. Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 with Service Pack 1 Express is installed.

There is also a similar thread but talks about 2 errors instead of one, also the case in which our problems occur are different. The thread is located here.

Any suggestions would be swell. Hope you guys could help out. I'm stomped at the moment.

Yo have to check info in Control Panel>>Problem reports and Solution read error messages which relate to explorer.exe.

Hi Flavious,

There is nothing stated there. It seems no error has been filed there. The options are greyed out except for change settings.

It's strange. And what about event viewer? You have to check Application section and find errors which relate to explorer.exe and read error messages.Event viewer should report kind of this.

Hi Flavious,

I found this on the Event Viewer. I believe this is the error. I'm not 100% certain though.

Unfortunately no meaning information.

If you have grayed "View Problem history" this means history has been cleared. You have to wait for another error.when it appear -at once check it in "problem reports and solution"

Hi Flavious,

I do have have Ccleaner installed which is what may have erased it. If the error reoccurs, I'll make sure to get the information there and post it back here. Thanks. In the meantime has anyone else got any other suggestions?

No.If any program clear "problem history" you have to stop it -As you can see it is not good idea to clear problem history automatically. The best way to do it manually if you already don't need information from there :geek:.So I'm waiting for your new report...

My Computer

Hi Flavious,

I actually don't clear my history automatically. I do it manually and unfortunatrely I haven't been able to recreate the error just yet. Once I get the error I will post it back here.

I've recreated the problem yet when I check back at problem reports and solutiuons nothing is there. I've checked the settings which are all set to send reports to Microsoft and everything is on. Any other ideas? I haven't cleared my history yet with Ccleaner.

Hi Flavious,

Sorry for the late reply. Well, I've finally given up. I've done a complete reformat due to the fact that I've done a lot of things that could screw up my O.S. (Not concerning this topic). But anyway I'm glad to report that everything is back to normal. I will be waiting for the Windows 7 Ultimate I've pre ordered in tune with a processor and display upgrade. My wallet was saying ouch the whole time but my desktop was screaming i love you. I know it's quite off topic. Just sharing. Oh and the system file checker would have worked except that my explorer was in pristine condition. I think some software I've installed previously caused the erratic behavior.
