Vista Freezing Up

Hello there, Vista is constantly freezing up, and I really like to fix it,

The cooling is good enough,
The power is good enough,
And the memory seems fine since I already did a memtest.

It freezes at random times while doing things like browsing the web or playing a game,
Ive used XP before and it had the same problem.

Please help :)

Merty

I made a custom build PC,
Let the company I bought the parts with implement the Processor and the Memory on the Motherboard.
Anyway, I did put it all together, And installed Windows XP, When I was done installing I noticed that The screen freezed up, and sometimes the computer restarted, Seems I had a STOP 0x0000000A Error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

Anyway, I figured out maybe installing vista helped, So I installed Vista ultimate, And everything worked fine till I found out it started freezing up again, No BSOD's Now though.

Yes I do, I updated everything
It also probably wont be overheating since my temperatures are:
CPU: 35 Degrees
Videocard: 52Degrees
Harddisk 32 Degrees

Given that it has happened on both Vista and XP with the same hardware I would suspect the hardware. Try swapping out RAM sticks and see if it continues.

Googling now what to do about it, Seems I have to reinstall Vista again.

Hi Merty,

If reinstalling, try starting off with bare minimums i.e. keyboard and mouse only as the connected peripherals (apart from the monitor :D).
If you manage to boot into the GUI, then try adding other hardware peripherals selectively - this may isolate the problem hardware as Vista has been known to have had some issues with earlier hardware unless workarounds such as compatibility mode etc. for the drivers are used.

Hope I have been of some assistance

I am brand new to this forum. However, I am experiencing the same issue with random freezes. I have static screen and everything is locked up solid. Hard shutdown is required. I am using 64 bit Vista Ultimate and just downloaded SP2. It was freezing prior to this download. My system is a HP 8600 Workstation. I am computer dense. So if someone with lots of patience wants to work with me I would appreciate it. It appears to work fine in the "safe mode with networking". I have tried driver update and registry fix software. Unistalled Norton 360 after reading it was conflicting with IE8. Using a AV program recommend from this site but I am at work and can't remember what the name is. Hate getting old.
Thanks,
Mike
