Alright i have a gateway laptop not too old at all. Running Vista home Prem. The back story is it froze and i hard reset it, upon restart it started to freeze on the green bar screen and wouldn't go past. Using a recovery partiton on the harddrive placed on there by gateway i attempted 3 times to restore the laptop to factory state, i got as far as the vista initial setup and it wouldnt go back to the desktop. Again it crashed doing the same green bar issues. Finally using a disc i found i deleted the partition and reinstalled vista, leaving the recovery section alone again. But it ran fine i thought i was in the good, so i started to try to get the drivers back, i installed the drivers for the webcam, touchpad, and video card. All were retrieved from the gateway support website. It crashed again the same green bar screen and not going past it. Now the issue, using F8 to get to the advanced boot screen none of the options do anything but send me back to the green bar starting the wait for nothing to happen again. i Also attempted to do a factory state repair with that recovery partition, but it sends me to the green bar. Same thing occurs wif i attempt to use the disc to just install vista, it prompts to press any key to load from cd/dvd i do so it says windows loading files loads for a good 3 mins, then just sends me to the green bar again. Also i cannot access the command prompt or i would attempt to delete the partition again. I cant figure out whats wrong and i know as far as ive gone would exceed what geek squad or most the the random computer repair shops could do. And seeing how its refusing to load a recovery from the vista cd/dvd i doubt anyone could get anywhere with it.

I happened on this forum while searching about my problem through google, and it seems alot of people got a good basis on vista. So i come to you guys asking can anyone offer any advise or help at all? Thank you

Sounds like you need to reformat and have a fresh install.

yeah that would be nice to do but i cant figure out any way to allow me to reformat, any suggestions or directions would be much appreciated. Like i said in my novel above, I cant run the vista install cd, access the advanced boot options screen, well i can acess it but its all useless, and i9 cant get to a command prompt.

When the fresh install asked for the format just select yes. This will wipe the HD fresh and reinstall your opsys. Keep in mind that you will lose everything else you had.

only problem is when im attempting to get a fresh install using the vista disc i have it wont load it just eventually returns to the green loading bar where it sits, thank you for the replys though, any thoughts on using a program burned on a disc to delete the partition such as. "Parted Magic liveCD" some program i found on download.com. But it's susposed to be able to delete the partition and thats all im worried about now

It sounds like your Hard Drive or your Vista disk may be bad. It is honestly hard to tell with out looking at the details of what either one says. If you find a fresh install disk for installing a new Hard drive, they have the program to write the hard drive to all Zero's. This ensures the hard drive is clean with no errors. That would eliminate the hard drive as a problem. If the Laptop is not so old, perhaps you could call gateway and tell them that you have a bad install disk. Tell them you never knew this as the laptop was fine until now and that once you needed the disk you found out that it was faulty, maybe you can have them replace it for you or even have them take care of the problem. Gateway from what I have heard is pretty concerned about customer satisfaction.
