Using OS CD to repair registry

Computer: bought from Cyberpower, Asus, OS windows vista home premium

Problem: My wife shut down my computer normally in preparation for a move. When I tried to reboot, it gave me the standard screen for an abnormal shutdown. Tried all available options but all gave me the message that my registry was missing or corrupt. It also said that I should use my OS CD then 1/ reboot, 2/ change language, then 3/ choose repair. When i reboot with the cd in I simply get the same screen as before. I changed boot preference to cd but still get the same default screen for abnormal shutdown. Talked with my son and he recommended using F10 or F12 (not shown or mentioned on any screen or in manual) while the reboot was in process. F10 got me into another screen, but this was for a complete overwrite of my OS. All I want to do is follow the arcane Microsoft instructions and repair my OS. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello Whopperbo, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if doing a System Restore at boot using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to fix it for you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

What does it say on your installation DVD?
With Asus computers it's most often the F8 key that'll get you to the boot selection menu (although I've seen Esc used also)

Is this a Desktop or a Laptop? If a Desktop, have you opened the case (unplug it first and ground yourself by holding onto the metal of the case while poking around inside) and checked the connections?
