disable all the addons like download manager, tollbars etc in internet explorer, and try to search some thing in windows explorer.
Also try disabling script debug
Go to your control panel>internet option>advanced tab
put a tick in disable script debugging (internet explorer)
put a tick in disable script debugging (other)
take the tick out of display a notification about every sscript error
keep us informed

This is in Windows Explorer not IE,right? The utility called "Windows Explorer Shell
fix" may help.

Have you tried "the old standbys"?
Virus scan in Safe Mode.
Open new User Account. If problem not present, migrate and delete old account.
System Restore to a point before problem began from Safe Mode.
