Help please!

Hello.

I've had a problem with my new lap top. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 on a 2.2Gh Dual core.

Every time I turn my lap top on, after it finishes loading all the stuff, all of a sudden explorer.exe cpu usage jumps to 40~50% and won't come down until I finish the process and start it again through task manager. This is really annoying since I have to do this everytime it starts...

I have read many threads about similar problems. Although none of the solutions have worked for me so far...

This is really driving me crazy. I don't know what to do anymore .

Help PLEASE!

Yeah blink 182 fan lol..

Yeah I've already disabled most of programs. I just left the antivirus, audio and display drivers. Didn't work :/

Are you sure you're using it right? I'm not sure if you can disable audio and display from msconfig.

none the less do a double check.

click on start (orb)

search "msconfig" (no "") and hit enter, click start up and disable what you don't want. basically everything. just make sure you're on the START UP tab

Open regedit by typing regedit in run, and navigate to hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windowsnt\currentverson\winlogon,
in the right pane find Shell. Right click on shell and select delete.

Download this View attachment explorer.reg save it on your desktop. Double click on explorer.exe and accept all, restart your system and check

This is no solution but it may make your computer more usable as you
continue to troubleshoot.

In Task Manager, Processes tab, explorer.exe right-click, then click Set Affinity.
Be sure that only one CPU is checkmarked.

Only one CPU checked. Okay, which one? :o lol... It displays two. CPU 0 and CPU 1

Coin toss.

Either one is fine. This way explorer.exe can only hog one CPU and leaves the other for other computer actions.

If you haven't already, you could try creating a new User Account.
If the problem doesn't persist there, migrate by copying over your
personal files and delete the old account.
