possibly a driver issue , some old driver not compatible with some part of SP2

try updating all yuor drivers , motherboard/chipset/gpu sound chip , everything you can then reinstal sp2

heres alist of all the latest drivers for yuor machine

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&product=3548643

it might also be a good idea to install all the hotfixes mentioned too as they are all current

EDIT , ive just looked through the actual drivers they are all outdated , typical customer support from a large company

get your audio drivers from here

There are 2 main reasons for issues installing Service Packs:
- malware infections
- outdated drivers

I would follow archie123's advice and would also look for any drivers that were updated during the development (or after) of SP2. This time period was Oct 2008 to May 2009.
